Smartsheet Import for Jira
Moves a sheet into Jira in one go, without losing what a CSV import often misses. It's free, no matter how big your team is.
- Price
- Free for any size team
- Does
- One-time move into Jira
- Needs
- Jira Cloud, and Smartsheet Business or higher
- Setup
- About 15 minutes
What it does
- Parent and child rows become epics, stories and sub-tasks.
- Comments show who wrote them.
- Attachments and links come along.
- Smartsheet contacts get matched to Jira users.
- Before anything gets written, you see a preview and try it on 5 rows (which you can undo).
How it works
Setup takes about 15 minutes, and you don't need a consultant.
Connect
Sign in to Smartsheet from inside Jira. Only Jira admins (and whoever they allow) can set it up.
Map
Pick a sheet and a Jira space. Shim suggests where each column goes in Jira, and how parent and child rows turn into epics, stories and sub-tasks. Change whatever you want.
Preview
You get a list of every issue Shim is about to create or update, plus every value it can't copy over exactly and why.
Test
Run it on 5 rows and go look at them in Jira. If something's off, undo the test and fix the mapping.
Go live
Shim moves the rest, and that's it. The sheet is in Jira.

Who it's for
Teams moving to Jira for good.
You're done tracking this work in Smartsheet and want all of it in Jira, history included, without the cleanup a CSV import often needs.
Jira site admins.
You (or anyone you give access to) set it up once, and that's it. There's nothing to maintain afterward.
What you need, and what it costs
Requirements
- Jira Cloud (not Data Center or Server)
- A Smartsheet Business, Enterprise or Advanced Work Management plan. Smartsheet only opens its API to those plans, so Pro can't connect.
- A sheet in the Smartsheet US or EU region
- A Jira admin to install the app
Common questions
What does it bring over that a CSV import doesn't?
Comments (with who wrote them), attachments, and who's assigned to what (matched to their Jira accounts). Child rows stay under their parents in Jira, too. A CSV import often skips those, or takes hours of cleanup to get them in.
What Smartsheet plan do I need?
Business, Enterprise or Advanced Work Management. Smartsheet doesn't let Pro plans use its API, so Pro won't work. Sheets in both the US and EU regions are fine.
Can I undo it?
That's what the 5-row test is for. Look at those rows in Jira, and if something's off, undo the test, fix the mapping and try again. Shim never deletes anything in Smartsheet, either.
Is it really free?
Yes. Import apps are free for any size team.
What if we decide to keep using Smartsheet after all?
Then install Smartsheet Sync for Jira. It picks up where the import left off, so you don't have to map anything again.
Does it work with Jira Data Center or Server?
No, just Jira Cloud.
